Gishun-tei

ぎしゅんてい
A four-and-a-half-mat tea room inside Rikugien, a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, that small groups can book.

One of the rental facilities in Rikugien, a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, Gishun-tei consists of a 4.5-mat tea room and a 2-mat mizuya. There is no air-conditioning. Because its layout differs from a typical tea room, users are asked to inspect it before booking.

It holds up to five people. Sessions are 9:00–12:00, 12:30–16:00, or all day 9:00–16:00. Tea utensils can be borrowed if requested when booking. Charcoal and open flame are prohibited, and meals cannot be eaten inside Gishun-tei.

For meals, the garden recommends also renting the adjacent Shinsen-tei (14-mat Matsu-Tsutsuji room and 7.5-mat Momiji room). It cannot be used for events open to the general public or for commercial activity.

About RikugienAbout Rikugien

Rikugien is a stroll garden with a pond and artificial hills that Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu designed and supervised himself over seven years on the Komagome estate granted to him by the fifth shogun Tsunayoshi in 1695. With Koishikawa Kōrakuen it was counted among the two great gardens of Edo.

Its name comes from the 'six forms' of waka poetry, and it recreates the scenery of Wakanoura in Kii and other places famed in poems as 88 views. It passed to Iwasaki Yatarō in the Meiji era, was donated to the City of Tokyo and opened in 1938, and was designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty in 1953.
