Kurikoma Kengyo is a builder in Izumi-ku, Sendai, incorporated in 1981. Because the president and half the staff are former carpenters, its catchphrase is "The Daiku" (the carpenter).
It began building the tea house Waraku-tei in 2000 and held a tea gathering there in October 2001, treating tea room work as a way to pass on craft to young tradespeople.
A tea house with cedar-log posts, pine beams, stone footings and a gently curved roof; it has a sloped kakekomi ceiling in the koma, a mizuya, shitaji windows and a hearth frame of reclaimed zelkova, with a garden of tsukubai and bamboo fence.
