Moshō-an
A tea house standing quietly in a grove within Okayama Kōrakuen, surrounded by trees. In the Edo period it was called Kayō-ken; in the early Meiji era, after the planting on Nishiki-ga-oka in front of it changed, it came to be called Moshō-an.
It was destroyed in the war and reconstructed in 1952.
It has three rooms of 4.5, 6 and 2 tatami mats and is used for tea only. Meals are not allowed; electricity is available but there is no air-conditioning.

How to book and feesHow to book and fees
This building may be used only as a tea room. The fee (revised 1 April 2026) is ¥3,660 for 3 hours, plus ¥1,220 per extra hour (¥8,540 for 7 hours). Garden admission is charged separately, including for helpers. Use is 9:00–16:00 including set-up and clearing; no buildings can be hired in August because of garden events.
Bookings open at a coordination meeting on the 10th of the month one year ahead (attendance in person required; traditional arts such as tea from 10:00). From 9:00 the next day, bookings are taken by phone or in person (weekdays 9:00–16:00; not on the day itself). Submit the application and a pledge form within a week, and pay the fee in principle one month in advance.
