Renchi-ken

れんちけん
Said to have been the favourite retreat of lord Ikeda Tsunamasa, who ordered the garden built. One of the few buildings to escape war damage.

One of the pavilions scattered across Okayama Kōrakuen, a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, Renchi-ken is a reception room built facing a pond. It is said to have been the favourite of Ikeda Tsunamasa, the Okayama lord who ordered the garden built.

It is one of the buildings that survived the war, and it retains the form in which it was restored after the 1934 flood. From the room there are wide views of the garden, including Sawa-no-ike pond and Yuishin-zan hill, and the waterside scenery is especially fine.

The room measures 17 tatami mats and holds 16 people. Food and drink are allowed, and it can be rented through the garden's building-hire scheme for tea gatherings and meetings.
