Ōbai-an

おうばいあん
An Edo-period tea room from the Toyoda house in Imai-chō, Nara, acquired and used in Odawara by Matsunaga Yasuzaemon (Jian), who devoted himself to developing electric power,, and donated to Sakai after his death.

Ōbai-an is an Edo-period tea room that stood in the Toyoda house, a national Important Cultural Property, in Imai-chō, Kashihara, Nara.

Matsunaga Yasuzaemon (Jian), who devoted himself to developing the electric power industry and is counted among the 'four heavenly kings' of tea, acquired and remodelled it and used it in Odawara. In 1980 his family donated it to Sakai and it was moved here.

A garden roji, free to visit, links it to Shin-an. The tea rooms are registered tangible cultural properties.
