Shin-an
Shin-an was built in 1929 by Ōgi Rodō, regarded as a master sukiya builder. It originally stood in Shiba Park, Tokyo, and in 1980 was donated by Fukusuke Corporation and moved beside the Sakai City Museum in Daisen Park.
The two-storey building has ten tatami rooms including tea rooms, and tea events can be held here. About 15 ryūrei (table) seats let visitors enjoy matcha casually.
A garden roji links it to Ōbai-an and is free to visit; it also holds the former Jōdo-ji nine-storey pagoda, a national Important Cultural Property. The tea rooms are registered tangible cultural properties.
How to experience itVisit & use
A bowl of matcha with a dry sweet (¥600) is served at the ryūrei seats. Shin-an is rented as a tea room; applications open two months ahead, at the tea-room office or through the Sakai Tourism & Convention Association (072-233-5258).
